No posts for a couple of days

I'm out of town for the weekend with my wife, so you won't hear from me for a couple of days. See you on Monday.

Weaver now has given up 29 runs and 40 hits in 17 innings. Yikes!

Silver lining: Weaver is the 5th starter right now, and he pitched five strong innings yesterday against a potent line-up. A manager wants five from the five spot, and Weaver did this. I only hope he can get at least five each start and that Grover pulls him before another self-destruction.

Five things I learned this weekend:

1. More blood was spilled in the SPurs-Suns game than in the Mayweather-De La Hoya fight.

2. Roger Clemens has no loyalty.

3. The Mariners can't hit.

4. The Yankess are in trouble, even with Clemens. Boston uses its bullpen because it can, while New York uses theirs because they have to do so. This will be their demise.

5. The NHL playoffs started?! They had a season this year? :)

Weaver looked a lot better Saturday, it's true. The problem is Weaver wasn't supposed to be a 5th starter. Cha Seung Baek is a 5th starter, and he's doing what a 5th starter is supposed to do. The fourth-highest paid player on the team is supposed to give you a little more than this. If he can build on this in the right direction, then we're on to something.

As for your other thoughts:
1. I didn't see the fight because boxing is so screwed up it makes it impossible to see its best events unless you shell out a bunch of money.
2. Since when does anyone have loyalty in sports? If someone was going to pay me $1 million a week to pitch, I think I'd probably take it, too.
3. You only now learned this?
4. Agreed. Clemens is a stopgap measure. If they were worried about hammy problems before, let's remember this is a guy who averaged less than six innings an outing last year -- with a history of leg problems.
5. Yes, they did. And the playoffs are spectacular. You're missing out!
