The reading list

Currently reading: Still considering a few books ...

Last read: "Baseball Between the Numbers," edited by Jonah Keri. RATING: 4 out of 5; worth your time. Review here.

My all-time favorite sports books:

1. "A Season On The Brink," by John Feinstein

Perhaps the greatest chronicle of a single season ever. Often imitated, never duplicated, as there are few better story tellers than Feinstein. Gets the nod on my list because of my love for college hoops.

2. "Friday Night Lights," by H.G. Bissinger

Incredible tale that's about so much more than football. Tackles issues of class and race -- a fascinating look at high school football culture in Texas.

3. "Boys of Summer," by Roger Kahn

Some would argue this is the greatest chronicle of a season. They'd have a valid point. You can't finish this book without wanting to read a Jackie Robinson biography.

4. "A Civil War," by John Feinstein

An inside look at the Army/Navy football game. If you've ever wondered why some people care so much about that game, here's your answer.

5. "Game of Shadows," by Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada

Makes this list because of its sheer importance. Investigative journalism at its finest.
